A communications degree just conveys that you.. are a good communicator? But do you know what also conveys your a good communicator? Communicating.

  • @Uglyboy98

I have my masters in communications and I don’t recommend even a bachelor’s. Public relations positions want people with public relations degrees/ experience. Vice versa all related subjects. Communications is only good for media. You better be the typical type of person that society wants to look at. My communications degrees has put me in an endless cycle of being in sales with people that have zero education and my education gives me anymore incentives than they have.

  • @Screwfase11

I am in a career I love. However, in order to promote obtaining any bachelor's degree will do the trick. If i wanted to get a quick degree through a competency based school, would anyone recommend going for this degree? Again, i only need a bachelor's degree to check a box.

  • @kngxn9773

my mom is scared of me going into communications because it's "too general" while it's exactly why I wanna go for the degree lol. If AI takes over audio broadcasting, I can just jump into video editing, if that path doesn't work out either I can just jump into digital marketing or event planner. Plus I can also do freelance projects on the side for extra money.

  • @minsungderstandings

Hi guys! Thanks to everyone who is sharing their experience 🙂 It's quite surprising to see many people being quite positive and optimistic about a Communications degree since it's, well, not very well considered.

I am interested in this major but I still have my doubts… So let me share my background:
I scored a 4/4 GPA in highschool here in my country and I've always been very hardworking and interested in learning lots of new things and skills, etc. My family and friends always tell me I'm talented at fields related to writing, editing, scripting, etc. My mom (medical doctor) has been telling me for years to pursue a career in a communications-related field. However, most people tend to tell me "don't go into communications, there are no jobs: the only thing that matters there is who you know, connections and networking". So I'd love to hear what's your opinion on this! Is the field SO messed up? Could I get pretty good opportunities if I keep on getting an excellent GPA? (Which, at least here in my country, technically means I get to obtain the best internships?)

I also know the opportunities and state of an industry also depends on which place you live in, because of demand-supply…

  • @leon323

Why would my council recommend I get a major in communications if it pay's less then what i'm getting paid now ?

  • @brettbeyer73

Thank you for being honest about the good and bad. Everyone else seems to be selling the degree like a used car.

  • @Sean-di9qe

Year 4 student in a communications degree and I’m just now watching this

  • @stereohype1

After I got my comms degree Ive since worked as a tv producer, radio host and writer, pr manager, creative director and social media manager. Its given me a lot of flexibility to tap into many different career fields.

  • @Bookspine5

I need a life degree. How much does a life degree go for ?

  • @Thatone_mn

Who else is watching after pursuing a communication course 😺

  • @HenryJBR

Definitely true any skill could be learn but not any skill could be taught definitely true 👍

  • @Music4EverKanekavi

i feel like ur calling me out in the intro 😂 amazing, i just want to be DONE WITH MATH, i got money left over from fafsa

  • @KinGxSTuDx

If you're not trying to be a "Social Media Content creator or a content writer" at companies like ESPN then it is almost worthless. The skill of communication is important but you are best off trying to create passive incomes through becoming an entreprenuer than finding a normal job . . .

  • @joshuaalcala11

Communications major here (Relational and Organizational). I started out working in restaurants serving tables, then I was moved up to management and now because of my degree I’m being pushed to go into the cooperate level which pays six figures. So yeah it’s worth it, I’ve been making almost six figures since I was 22 and now that I’m 27 and the degree is done and my MBA is almost done, it’s worth it and six figures is on the way. College cannot be about your major at the end of the day, college is about the love of learning in general – as is life. Much love

  • @koei3920

Mans search for meaning is one of the worst and overrated books i have ever read. If anyone looks at this comment make sure to stay away from this book at all costs. It is watered down nothing.

  • @zambinoni

7:56 um, SIR? 😂 there are MANY pro gamers online who have done a ton of good over the years. it's all about how you use the opportunities you've been given, and some good people use them very well. credit where credit is due 👏

  • @enishalihoward8119

It’s worth it if you live in the States! But if you live in the U.K. forget it they employ uneducated people who don’t even have degrees in the industry 🤮

  • @sumtingwong8768

Remember that if you feel your career is not philanthropic enough, you can always give back via youtube videos teaching your expertise

  • @alvindiaz8774

I'm a shy guy and like it or not you have to talk to people

  • @zweiwing4435

Can you make video of Media Major or Entertainment Technology Major, and Hospitality Management?

  • @mushmouth_thenomad

Even communications can’t communicate properly what you can get out of a communications degree. Also, communications.

  • @jaydennp

IS it like speech classes for this major

  • @bnaccdesign2524

To all the prospective Comm major's, don't listen to the Debbie downers in these comments. These are most likely lazy, unimaginative, unmotivated people who got stuck because their career-life didn't fit into a neat little easily accessible box. There are no "worthless" or "bad" degrees. First, just having a degree puts you in the upper 25% when compared to the entire working world. Second, studying communication skills is very valuable, versatile, and applicable to so many careers. Are you going to be a Dr., Lawyer, Engineer… probably not. But, if you need a career that is strictly A+B must=C and gets me X amount of income every year or I'm a loser, then don't study communications. If you are a dynamic, driven, outside the box thinker, who wants a platform to build and shape the career of your dreams, comm is a great place to launch from. In the majority of the working world, you are the only limiting factor, not your degree.

  • @katharine1285

Well I feel a little crushed lol. I make $25 as an account's payable coordinator with no degree just job experience. My job meaning is -1 in my mind, I'm not helping anyone but the company by paying the bills due 🙃. So I feel like it's a very mundane job that really can't go anywhere financially unless I become a manager or director whcihc socks because I don't want to be either.

  • @mochimitsu7

$49k a year isn't too much? That would skyrocket my career from low class to high class in no time here in Mexico. WTF you Americans are smoking?

  • @doomedfleur12974

Hah communications…. I majored in walking, and my minor was in skipping

  • @tylerhoffman9856

Should have watched this years ago.
    me checking publishing date
Oh it published last year when I’ve been graduated for several years now.

  • @Max-ru4lp

So… its like marketing, but with steroids

  • @colinimhoff4884

Focusing communications with public relations or marketing is definitely growing.

  • @jblast3090

thinking of getting a communications degree to use in sales

  • @samopoku2582

You think a communication minor can go with supply chain?

  • @aundreymosley8937

There is a distinction between Communications and Communication Studies (ComS). I studied ComS because it focused on human comm, interpersonal, speech, debate etc. I pursued this degree because I wanted to teach communication courses (public speaking and argumentation).

  • @08fighter08

I wondered if communications will eventually become a minor, an associates degree, or just a few courses that can be taken without getting a degree. Employers are looking for experience more so than a degree.

  • @user-hq5hg6mz2n

He literally gave a review with no backup of actual information. We learn journalism, digital marketing, writing, acting, so I think it's a good ass degree.

  • @Jakecaseyy

I think it’s a good degree you just got to be smart about it

  • @Juskle7

If you are not getting a degree in a STEM or financial based major, this is by far the most versatile degree to have if you are not sure what you want to do with your life but you want to go to college and get some life experience. This also depends on the type of person you are, introverts are not going to want to get this degree. Extroverts will thrive with this degree.
