It’s the $200,000 pay check of course 😏

I don't understand. You're the one with the power, not the patient. You knock them out, you keep them alive when they're paralyzed and can't breathe on their own (caused by the medications you gave them), you make them "emerge" (I guess? don't want to call it "awaken" because they're not asleep, they're unconscious) when the time comes… Maybe the patient can communicate their preferences (I couldn't) but when it comes to the procedure you're making the decisions, not the patient. It's good that you like your job but saying the patient is powerful – not when you're around they aren't.

your reels pop up often on my feed. I had a general anaesthetic today for a 4 hour procedure and my anaesthetist did something brilliant. I was so so nervous. I told her in the pre op consult how anxious I would be. I warned her I might panic, and I asked her to please do everything slowly and explain it all step by step so I could stay calm. She was so sweet and reassuring. The cannula was in, I was wheeled to the OR, the nurse asked if I wanted a pillow or a blanket… and BOOM! I woke up in recovery and it was all over!!! The anaesthetist knocked me out without even giving me the chance to get scared. No count down or think of something nice, just out like a lightswitch! maybe others wouldn't appreciate that, but I was so grateful I actually messaged her from the ward later to thank her for knowing exactly the right thing to do for my nerves when i didn't know myself.

Heard a good medical joke recently.

Anesthesia: You know, if you think about it, the drape is sort of like a blood/brain barrier.

Surgeon: Ah, you finally realize where the brains in the OR are.

Anesthesia: Of course, there’s no blood on my side.

As someone who loves pharmacology, oddly enough, I quite enjoy being in hospital, as it's the surroundings of all I'm interested in, but surgery, I like the Midazolam because it's a pleasant feeling and I was a recreational user of drugs in the past. Not that you're awake long enough to experience the drug/medicine, before being knocked out with the gases.

  • @joshuaesquivel5721

Do you think that CRNAs and Anesthesia Assistants will decrease the number of anesthesiologists in the future?

  • @ronalynjalmasco9364

Hello doc, i need your advise on my case. I gave birth on September 8. I started to feel severe headache after discharged. It's kinda weird becuase when i sit or stand it comes and when I quickly lay down it disappear so quick! And when i sit, it comes back so quick too! The pain is at the frontal lobe part to my sinus and at the back just above my spinal.
