How is your 1st year in Biomedical Science structured? Let me know in the comments below!

FYI #1: the examples are university specific, not country specific! You thus might encounter different program structures even within a single country, as I explain in the video for Belgium as an example! 😉
FYI #2: I will not disclose any specific names of universities, as I don't want to discriminate.
The essence of the video is that most programs are comparable according to the big outline!

Hi it is possible study on the first year of biomedical science undergraduate and work at the same time since I need earn some money for food and dormitory?

  • @hasinthaheshanweerasundara2608

I'm upto following this degree in about couple of months and i already felt that this is the place where I'm gonna get that extra help on my way to graduation thanks a lot for this help

  • @AJ-gc1yd

is there more biology or chemistry in this course? Or does it depend on the uni?

  • @kasor345

I just finished my first year in biomedical sciences at the free university of brussel (the french speaking medecine faculty) from september to january we had a lot of theorical courses in basics (biology, mineral chemistry, physics and maths) and some dissection labs every 2 weeks. Then from january to june we had anatomy and histology courses to add with organic chemistry as new courses while also adding some chemistry labs and still having the biology ones (don't also forget that physic). It's a lot of work but I love this diversity of domain I canot wait until september 🙂

University of Geneva, Switzerland, first year:

Same exact classes as first year medicine , apart from 2 hours a week where we have scientific communication instead of clinical skills.

    It’s in 3 big categories:

***Basic sciences: general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, statistics

***Medical sciences: (human biology): this is the bulk of the course

First semester: biochemistry, cell biology, histology, general anatomy, genetics and genomics, microbiology, general embryology

    Second semester:
systems (1 per week): neuro, endocrine, circulatory, reproductive, digestive, respiratory, locomotion, urinary, skeletal

End of second semester: integration : obesity, metabolism, physical activity, immunology

Others: pharmacology, case studies (atherosclerosis and cystic fibrosis)

***Communication (specific to Biomed) : oral and written communication, extra statistics specifically for BioMed (on top of med stats)

Thinking about doing biomedical science but I’m not sure if I’m smart enough. If I wanted a job as a biomedical scientist would I need to do a masters degree or would an undergraduate degree get me a job?

  • @navn_g7230

What are the basic things to know biomedical engineering student?

  • @oona-cm5ry

university 2 is definitly the university of Ghent. i study there and its exactly the same

  • @anique7869

in the UK, we generally do Biochemistry, Molecular & Cellular Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Pharmacology and Microbiology in first year most medical & biomedical sciences

  • @Reem-pj1os

Useful video, I’m gonna apply for biomed for the next course and I was so confused ur vid helped alot

  • @pleasewait8124

I need help I don’t know what to do in university like I’m interested in human biology like anatomy, infection and disease etc help me ?

  • @AK-vi1rw

Brother may I know how much you earn per year ? And where are you studying

  • @titi9899

Hi. Can you please answer my question?? I want to study immunology for master in my country( Iran-middle east) and get a phd with full fund abroad! But students from my country who are living abroad and studying basic science like biology and molecular genetic say that it's so hard to get a phd with fund in medical branches like immunology and hematology, medical genetics and anything that is related to medical studies and humans!! I wanted to know is this true that it is much harder for these majors to get a phd with fund since you are studying immunology i think you can answer that question! Thank you

  • @happytaleswithsharmi7058

Hello sir. Can a biomedical scientist get job in chocolate company??Also is it necessary to have a biotechnology background as i m a microbiology postgraduate??

  • @kay6096

Ah yes. Science youtubers and their love for doodle videos.

  • @namhaimai2405

Hello Sir. Thanh you so much for your helpful videos. May I ask you a question? I am now a senior at my university. Because I just have a little time to read book so you think between these 2 book: Kuby immunology vs Janeway's immunobiology, which immunological book do you prefer? Yours Sincerely.

  • @Sciencerely

Great video! I really enjoyed my undergraduate courses, there is much amazing stuff going on in biomedicine!

  • @azimniloy5859

Hi 👋🏻 I would like to ask what jobs can you find with bachelors biomedical science degree as I was planning to work a few years (2-3 years ) and then go for postgraduate or Masters as I want to earn money independently and study with what I earn as I don’t want to be a burden for my father as I have other siblings and I don’t want them to spend a lot on me and not be able to support my siblings later one .. I know this is a foolish question but I need answers as I am looking to do BAchelors of biomedical science in Australia next year

  • @KevinHaorigami

Hi, can biomed graduates work in a hospital lab where they analyse blood, urine or tissue samples.

  • @SourcingtoSales

Excellent research put into this country-wide Kevin! A great resource for 1st year biomeds 😀

  • @sarax8684

Can you please make such video about the 2nd year etc? 😄 Thank you

  • @HelixH13

Oh what a wonderful video! Thank you so much!

  • @PhDCoffeeTime

This is in fact very similar to my 1st-year Biochemistry program!
Nice to have a comparison between countries, great illustration Kevin.

  • @didilove8022

very much needed as I will start my Biomed course in a couple of weeks… A bit anxious hopefully I will make it. Thank you soo much

  • @lauranunn5770

Thank you for this video. I starting in October and I very excited but so nervous as well. Tip is that failing and doing badly is not a bad thing, it just how you grow and understand. This is something I need to keep in mind.

  • @lucabonaccio

Wow. I see that in those universities the main courses from the first year are actually a lot more specific compared to what we have here in Italy.
We have focused on the basic sciences, a lot of math, physics and chemistry.
For example in my firsy year of biotech I had only 2 biological courses, cell biology and genetics.

  • @ryu7291

I'm about to send out my UCAS application for Biomedical Sciences!
Thank you for your videos Biomed Master!
