The Defense Minister is the cousin of the PM. That is his qualification to the post. He is the most clueless, inefficient, useless Minister in the whole cabinet. Look at him is all you need to do. He is smiling and almost burst out laughing the whole time he gave the briefing.
To be fair, Obama spent some time living in Malaysia as a child so his visits likely had nothing at all to do with the crash. No other US presidents visited Malaysia because no other US presidents spent a part of their childhood there. The optics are admittedly bad though.
