Medicine vs Biomedical Science @UCL I Which one is harder? I The Junior Doctor

I studied medicine as a graduate student at UCL having done biomedical science as an undergraduate student. In this video I will …

If you have similar experience with studying biomedical science or medicine I’d love to know 😊

Great Video – very well done, It sounds like the biomedical sciences approach is more European and more 21st century, whereas the medicine is more 20th century, cramming left brained research, which explains why most doctors are so closed minded and reductionistic. Every High-School.Guidance Counselor should share this video with students thinking of toing into medical fields.

Hello, out of curiosity, did you transfer from biomed to medicine at ucl. If so, how does the transfer scheme work i.e is it one year of biomed then a transfer to medicine?

Can I study cancer biology and immunology as premed? After then can I apply to medicine? I got rejected for med.. It was really hard to get through those emotions. I always wanted to become an oncologist. So I choosed to study cancer biology and immunology. Please tell me is it going to be fine to apply medicine?

You summed this great, medicine offers breadth, Biomed gives depth. I work as a Biomedical scientist in medical microbiology. I’ve found there is a huge disconnect between the lab and the ward and not many clinicians seem to know what we do. I’d love to see more medics visiting the labs so they can see what happens to their samples.

I feel like most of the people who have gone through both degrees, they usually study biomed first and study medicine after graduated from biomed.

And i feel like many of those people say that biomed is tougher than medicine i think it isn't true cause,

you'll think medicine is easier cause you've already learned overlapping topics in biomed, it'll be much easier for you to digest the lectures in medicine and also easier to memorize

Second is if you've successfully graduated from biomed, by that time you will b more matured, fully adapted to university life, you'll knoe how to do research, how to do assignments etc, these are the skills you've learnt during biomed degree and you can straight apply it all in your medicine degree, which makes medicine easier (cause you've gone through the suffer in biomed, there is no transition period when you stidy Medicine)

So I think those who took both degrees and feel like biomed is harder, are most probably due to these influences and it isn't necessarily true

That’s so interesting, I actually am finding medicine harder than biomed at the moment! Maybe it’s because of the unis as my undergrad uni had lots of lectures and lab time and less focus on SDL/research papers I guess? So good to see a different perspective

Loved this video I’m currently doing boimed so it’s nice to know what to expect when doing medicine in comparison. When you said during medicine you have shorter holidays, is that because you’re on placements or do you just continue with more lectures?

Hi how old were the oldest people in your medicine degree? I am planning to also study medicine as a graduate and I am 30 now
