You are not there too observe there performance you are there to observe how they go about they’re job scope. You don’t know how they work or the job that they do fully. The way you word things goes a long way with a group. “The team” “the group we got here” things like that go a long way with people feeling respected for not only the work they do but them as individuals. They are not employees. They are people first.

Great framework – get your expectations from above (so you can exceed them), make your team aware you're watching (what you observe will be the minimum standard moving forward), understand policies and procedures to give you insight into systemic issues which may need to be tweaked for optimal processes (something hard chargers are willing to bring up tactfully with their team or leadership), and set the tone for new standards based on your observations both as a group and individually.

Good way to start as a manager. If you want to start as a leader, you need to spend more time with your team. Fine to tell them stuff, but in that first period they should be TELLING YOU, just as much.

Managers in education do not know how to manage. M

  • @TheHDPerson

Boomer manager approach. This sort of approach does not work anymore. The carrot is better than the stick.
