Got into Biomedical Engineering to help design medical devices and even designed a medical device prototype for my final year project but I realised medical device companies don’t employ biomedical engineers to do the actual design stuff. So I’m planning on doing my masters in Mechanical Engineering since my program was mostly focused on mechanics. I’m hoping universities will even accept me.🤧💔
I can strongly confirm what he was saying. I am currently a senior of BME undergraduate program and yes, it is like jack of all trades. In my country, we learn the mindset of multidisciplinary leadership because, in order to make BME’s things, you have to collaborate with others from different majors 😅 Work with doctors, bio lab technicians, software and hardware engineers… It sucks more if you want to make medical devices since the curriculum barely scratches the surface of EE and ME.
I have a huge passion in developing medical devices but it’s that’s still not justifiable to go into BME, like you mentioned earlier, they dapple on a bit of everything and doesn’t allow you to be in a specific concentration. That’s why I’m sticking with EE 👍
I’d say computer science is the best major, just due to all the employment opportunities you have. You can work in many different engineering fields such as computer, software, data and electronics. EE will be the second best major, however I’m a bit skeptical about it because you can work as an electrical engineer without an EE degree (at least in the UK).
Id say if youre not planning to go for a masters or phd then youll be more in competition with ees and mech eng. As well as bmens.
