The following 7 steps are enough to get you the job of your dreams (Business Analyst)
1) Get an Undergraduate degree
Having a degree in any field is the first step. It would be more helpful if it is related to Business, IT, Finance or Data analytics.
2) Acquire technical and non-technical skills
Technical Skills
· SQL/Excel
· MS PowerPoint
· Data Analytics tools- PowerBI/Tableau
You don’t have to learn all, many of them can be learnt during job, just make sure you at least know MS Excel/PowerPoint/SQL and a data analytics tool to begin with.
Non- technical Skills
· Communication
· Presentation
· Business Acumen etc
3) Work on hands-on Projects and get some experience
If you are a fresher – gain experience by doing an internship/volunteer work with any small or big organization
If you are working but in a different role- Take up extra/side projects in your company that business analysts undertake. Or in cases with longer experience, you can consider masters in business analytics also.
When you are starting out, start by gaining experience in diverse domains and industry. Once you have worked in the field, you can also specialize in one area.
4) Certifications
Certifications are not 100% necessary but can help enhance your resume.
5) Masters in Business Analytics
This can be a great option too if you already have some experience.
6) Network with people in your area and find mentors! Get Job referrals
7) Update Resume/LinkedIN and Apply for Jobs
