We put a lot of focus on skin care, which is important but we need to approach skin holistically. When our body is healthy, skin looks healthy. We need to make certain lifestyle choices which are good for overall health and positively impacts skin as well.

    ✅Eat fresh fruits and vegetables
Colourful food contains high amounts of lycopenes and polyphenols which are antioxidants. Have two fresh fruits and two bowls of salad everyday. Try to make your own salad dressing as packed dressings have high salt and sugar content.

✅Cut down on sugar and salt
Sugar causes the formation of advanced glucagon end (AGE )products which bind with collagen to make them less elastic. Skin in in turn before more prone to injury and recovery’s slowly. Try to avoid sugar as much as possible.
Salt consumption should be in moderation. Salt causes fluid retention and also dries skin out. Try to reduce packaged food and processed food as they have high salt content.

    ✅Exercise atleast 3 times a week
Many studies have proven the positive impact of exercise on skin collagen. People who exercise regularly tend to have fewer wrinkles.
Exercising for atleast 30’mins 3 times a week improves overall skin health.
On the contrary, heavy exercise or cardio more than 2 hours a day has been associated with increased loss of fat from face making face look more gaunt and aged.

✅ sleep for at least 7 hours
Many people can function with less sleep but it’s usually advisable to sleep for 6-8 hours a day. Here are a few things which can improve sleep quality:
Avoid screens an hour before bed
Sleep at the same time everyday
Avoid caffeinated drinks 6 hours before bedtime

    ✅Avoid excess sun exposure
We all know the benefits of using susncreen but just applying sunscreen is not enough. Try to avoid harsh mid day sun as much as possible. When out in the sun, wear braid sunglasses, carry an umbrella and wear thin cotton full sleeves to protect skin. These are beneficial for those with melasma or other hyperpigmentation disorders.
